| Candidates are those in the field of geriatric psychiatry, who are seeking ABPN Board Certification. All candidates will need to complete and submit an application in order to qualify for an examination. Each application will be reviewed by the credentials department. Candidates become diplomates after passing their examination. Diplomates will then begin the process of maintenance of certification. Candidates in Geriatric Psychiatry
Initial Certification
The initial certification in the subspecialty of geriatric psychiatry examination is a 200-item, multiple-choice examination administered via computer for four hours at Pearson VUE testing centers. The Board advises applicants, in writing, of acceptance to the examination.
Maintenance of Certification
The maintenance of certification examination is a 120-item, multiple-choice examination administered via computer for three hours. Candidate knowledge is assessed in clinical science of aging, diagnosis and evaluation of psychopathology, treatment and management issues, practice-related policy and legal issues, and medical and neurologic aspects of geriatric psychiatry.
